An Oath to the Winter Winds is a supplemental standalone novel that takes place after Key of Arcandus from the Carving Legacies series. It is not required reading to continue following the main series, but it adds a little more depth to the support characters, and builds additional lore that the author could not prioritize over other material. It is also separated from the main series because of the nature of the content.

Ever since the events at the watchtower, Sebastian cannot assuage his guilt over his best friend’s fall to the Kingman’s Curse. Desperate to escape the suffocating confines of the Vanis Aer Æther Guild, and find a solution against Colin’s purgatorial state, he flees with Niamh and a group of boisterous explorers to the magical continent of Seda in the hope of a new start. But between a mishap with a cursed leyline, and misunderstanding a Titanian holiday, Sebastian cannot catch a break. Still, there may be a silver lining that grows a deep-rooted crush into the blossom of love.
 
Niamh, on the other hand, is secretly struggling with her own feelings of inadequacy. After coming to terms that she is not cut out to be a mage, her reason for fleeing to Seda with her cousin’s exploration guild transforms into a discovery that she was destined to walk a different path.
