I wanted to update my current social media contacts for anyone on the following platforms. Please note that the bottom two won't be used nearly as much as the top given that Instagram barely gets me any traction, and Twitter currently seems to be on fire for the moment. But I do check both of them despite being more likely to post new content on TikTok and Mastodon.
Never thought I would actually be making this move, but after trying (twice) to build a YouTube channel, it appears that's just not in the cards for me. If anything, I've found more opportunities to create fun, short form content on TikTok where I can do more in less time and without wasting all day editing.
The YT algorithm, at this point, actively suppresses all creator content unless the video is topical to popular interests. In the past several months I've only received a total of 10-20-ish views on any given video where I spent at least a few days between shooting the video and editing it. Meanwhile, on TikTok I spent about 1 hour for capturing and clean-up, and within 24 hours I find myself garnering at LEAST 100 views, but often times much more than that. So, going forward, I'm halting all content on my YT channel. I'm probably not going to delete it, yet. But I'm not seeing any kind of future on that platform in its current state. TikTok is much easier, now that I've figured out the basics, and much more engaging. I'm actually having a lot of fun making content for it, too! Who knew? I wanted to share an interview from November of 2020 where Key of Arcandus became an ebook feature that year in Rainbow Crate Book Box. The creators of the subscription box were kind enough to put this softly sapphic story of mine into their distribution and then do a live stream interview on YouTube. Rainbow Crate was my first author interview ever, so I was a little nervous. But in the end it turned out to be a great conversation, and I've gotten a little more comfortable speaking through a camera now.
GISHWHES (Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen). I remember having a ton of fun with my friends doing some of the silliest of things in the name of love, kindness, and fun! I wanted to port those good feelings into my book giveaway in the hopes that people might enjoy tapping into their inner child a little.
Currently there has not been any traction of participation, so the odds of winning just by participating might be in your favor since the contest is only for two weeks (well...one and a half now). All you need is an Instagram account, and the challenges are pretty simple. Even though it's a KoA-themed contest, none of the challenges require you to have any knowledge of my book to win. So follow me, tag a friend or two, and take an hour or two on a weekend to show off your favorite book, ice-related thing, or best dress, and just have some fun with it! Good luck to those who participate! |
